The reason being, we try and sell to the prospect too early along their buyer journey, we don't nurture them as a lead until they're ready.

We need to nurture these leads for much longer than in the past. We have to let them buy from us. We don't sell to them anymore. That's lead nurturing, guiding future customers through their own experience until they are ready to buy, and then being there when that happens.

How do we nurture leads? We need to understand the journey they are on.

Communication with prospects must follow the journey and align with it.

During Discovery, they will are information gathers looking at features and benefits, perhaps using comparison sites or looking at blog articles comparing your company to others. Having ties to other experts can prove beneficial to you by association.

When they transition to the Consideration Phase, a reminder on Linkedin, or a Facebook Ad might be a timely reminder of one of the key benefits. Lead nurturing via a Marketing Automation platform like Hubspot or Marketo works well. Also during this phase, Case Studies and Client testimonials are handy things to share to show that others considered and then purchased from you.

If you sell online or just capture leads online, the experience needs to be simple and intuitive. Don’t make it hard for your customers to do business with you. Offer live chat, click to call or lively online community for them to find answers to the questions they have.
